To sort out the problem aboutexcessive generation of acid and iron in bioleaching process of low-grade secondary copper sulfide, a selective leaching theory was proposed, and a multi-factor matching (including physical, chemical, and biological factors)study method based on mineral dissolution chemistry was established. This project was supported by the 863 national high-tech research and development program. 
 
For the first time in the world the selective bioleaching technology was developed and applied in commercial practice.Ithas efficiently solved the problems associated withefficient extraction of copper and mass balance of acid and iron in the bioleaching process and alsobrought in intellectual property rights. Integrated with SX-EW and impurity balancing,the selective leaching technologies helped with the establishment of the largest and most successfully operating copper hydrometallurgy plant in China. The project has led to 11 invention patents and 1 utility model patent in application, among which 8 patents were authorized; 59 journal papers have been published, among which 28 papers were included in SCI/EI. With the application of the technologies, a total of 979.6 million Chinese yuan of profits and taxes in the past three yearsand nearly 40,000 Chinese yuan of profits and taxes per ton of copper were achieved, which resulted in the first prize of Fujian science and technology progress award.
