The Fe grade of iron concentrate for an iron mine was lower than 65%. The detailed mineralogical analyses on 11 samples from different circuits were carried out and the main mineralogical issues causing the low iron grade were identified. The first one is that the liberation degree of magnetite of underflow of the 2nd cyclone is higher than that of overflow. The other one is higher gangue content in iron concentrate. These could be tackled by increasing the liberation degree of magnetite of the overflow of 2nd cyclone and finding out the reason of the poor performance of column magnetic separator for cleaner process. Our suggestions were proved by the on-site test,  the Fegrade in iron concentrate increased to 65% from 63%by replacing column magnetic separator with washing magnetic separator in cleaner circuit.
