For metal bearing ores with alunite and other sulfate minerals, production data and flotation test results often show high S content in tailings, which may mean “poor” flotation circuit performance. Hence, diagnostic leaching test and quantitative mineralogical analysis were performed, and a method for accurately measuring sulfide sulfur content was established. It was found that sulfide mineral in tailings was mainly pyrite andsulfide sulfur content was 0.15%-0.20%, meeting the criterionfor tailings discharge. This provides a precise evaluation of flotation circuit performance for alunite bearing ores.
