On September 5, winners of the 12th China Charity Award were announced in a ceremony held in Beijing. Zijin Mining was recognized as a recipient of the prestigious award in the category of company donors.

This marks the fourth time that Zijin has received the award. Previously, the company was recognized as “the Most Compassionate Domestic Company” in 2007, “the Most Influential Public Service Project” in 2011, and “the Most Compassionate Company Donor” in 2012.

“Our commitment to being a responsible company has made us what we are today”, said Mr. Xie Xionghui, Vice President of Zijin Mining, who attended the award ceremony. “With our purpose of Mining for a Better Society in mind, Zijin Mining will continue to support public service and charitable causes and fulfill our social responsibilities. These efforts will help propel community development, foster prosperity for all and share the benefits of our growth with all stakeholders.”

Established in 2005, the China Charity Award is the highest philanthropic accolade in country. It aims to honor individuals, organizations, and projects that have made exceptional efforts in areas such as disaster relief, elderly care, support and assistance for the handicapped and orphans, poverty alleviation, education, healthcare, as well as support for cultural, artistic and environmental protection endeavors.

Meeting social responsibilities

Committed to the purpose of Mining for a Better Society, Zijin has developed an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) system with its own characteristics based on international standards. The company has cumulatively invested more than 3.8 billion RMB (520 million US dollars) in social programs across 16 countries and regions. It has consistently supported the host communities of its operations by improving infrastructure and public services, creating business opportunities and jobs, boosting local economies, improving living standards, and tackling poverty. This has earned the company wide social recognition in China and other countries.

Here are some examples illustrating Zijin’s dedication to charitable work:

1: In August 2012, Zijin established the Zijin Mining Charity Foundation, which has implemented over 600 charitable programs and donated a total of 52 million US dollars.

2: In 2010, Zijin launched the Relief Project for Elderly and Orphans in Shanghang County, providing monthly allowances to local residents over 80 years old and school-aged orphans. The project has an annual expenditure of more than 2.7 million US dollars and has benefited more than 15,000 people in the county.

3: During the COVID-19 pandemic, Zijin’s headquarters, along with the Zijin Mining Charity Foundation and its domestic and international affiliates, donated over 5.48 million US dollars in cash and in kind to their host governments and communities, to support pandemic containment efforts.

4: In response to the Chinese government’s call for rural revitalization, Zijin has invested approximately 96 million US dollars in various projects to improve local living and working conditions, and fuel economic development. These include maintaining and renovating village roads, supporting local industries, and improving water supply systems in host communities.
